Tom Bluemlein finds inspiration for his oil landscapes, waterscapes
and still lifes virtually everywhere he travels. Yet
most of his paintings are created close to home and in the
Smoky Mountains and the Appalachian region of the USA.
He comes often to the Highlands/Cashiers area for inspiration.
Tom finds clouds and fog, with a strong focused light particularly
interesting to work with. And no matter what the subject of his
paintings, water holds a great deal of significance for him, perhaps
suggesting an energy flow. Created with an ethereal touch, his paintings
take the viewer far beyond subject matter; his paintings create moods
Bluemlien’s art career spans 30 years-and several
states--from his studies in Cincinnati, Ohio and Woodstock,
New York to his current work in his native Kentucky.
In addition to painting, Tom enjoys helping and encouraging
other artists, and does regularly through his workshops
and painting demonstrations.
He is a member of several professional art organizations,
including the Cincinnati Art Club, the Salmagundi
Club of New York City, The Indiana Plein Air Painters, the
Kentucky Watercolor Society and the prestigious Oil Painters
of America. He is extremely proud that the Oil Painters
of America have selected his painting for their national juried
shows for three years running [2004-2006]. Tom’s paintings
are in the corporate collections of Great American Insur
ance Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Marriott Hotel in
Covington, Kentucky and Saint Luke Hospital.
Tom was a juror for the Southside Art League’s
National show in Indianapolis, Indiana and presented
a two-day workshop in September of 2005. In October
2005 Tom traveled to France to paint. Today
you’ll most often find Tom working in his Ft. Mitchell,
Kentucky studio. It is a custom designed space illuminated
by north light streaming through floor to ceiling
windows.
