Originally from Memphis Tennessee, Sue Gouse, a practical and driven lady, became a nurse at Duke (BSN) and has had an active clinical nursing career. She is married to Dr. John Gouse, a radiologist, and has raised five children and is the proud grandmother of two boys and one girl. The members of her family provide constant inspiration for Sue’s work.
Throughout life, Sue has been interested in much creative activity. Her love of beauty, color, texture, space, detail, variety, and light in God’s world, has delighted and fascinated her. As a result, she has been involved in home decorating, gardening, stained glass, heirloom sewing, needlepoint, crewel, scrap booking, photography, and various other arts and crafts.
Sue now lives in Savannah, Georgia in the historic home she and her husband renovated in 2000. The family spends extended time on Tybee Island during the summer, in addition to enjoying time in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina.
Sue discovered she has an affinity for the paint brush and canvas. Sue has always appreciated those who could paint, but never felt capable of drawing or painting until she walked into The Blue Valley Gallery in North Carolina to take her first art lesson from the owner, Velda Lovell. Once Sue realized that she could compose on canvas, she demonstrated that she had a lot of painting to do as the desire was released into action of painting. Her body of work is recent and prolific. She has proven that there is talent within and her enthusiasm for the canvas is impressive. Sue loves painting and it shows brightly. Another of Sue’s talents is marketing and she is not timid about it. Her work is available in original oils, giclees, and notecards.
Sue’s work is located at the following: The Blue Valley Gallery and Studio in Cashiers (Show on September 10th-10-4), North Carolina; the Horne and Thistle Gallery and The Mansion on Forsyth Park in Savannah; the Gallery by the Sea on Tybee Island, Georgia; and the Soho South Café in Savannah, Georgia. She is a member of the Savannah Art Association, The Tybee Arts Association, and the Highlands Art League. In addition, her work can be viewed online at the Landings web site, the Savannah Art Association web site and www. horneandthistlegallery.com.
Sue’s October Art Show (which includes original oil paintings, giclees, and notecards) will be hung at the Trillium Clubhouse the week of October 2 and will be there for the month of October. A percentage of all proceeds will benefit Relay For Life throughout the month of October. Everyone is welcome to come to a free public Art and Wine Reception on Thursday, October 5th, 6-8 P.M. at the Trillium Clubhouse. (RSVP 743-7882.)
